This year’s energy technology excursion headed for Nuremberg and Munich. 11 students of the engineering master courses were accompanied by the excursion organizers Franz Wittmann and Tim Herrmannsdörfer from LTTT.
The excursion included three stops that gave the students interesting insights into different areas of the energy technology.
The first stop was the MAN site in Nuremberg which is the leading international plant for alternative and conventional drive technologies within the MAN Truck & Bus Group. The students were given an informative lecture on the various drive technologies. In the course of a guided tour, they were able to gain an insight into the entire engine production process.
The next stage of the excursion was the geothermal power plant in Pullach, a pioneering geothermal heat supply project in the greater Munich area. The students received an introduction to geothermal energy and toured the power plant to witness first-hand how geothermal plants work.
The last stop was at SFC Energy AG in Brunnthal/Munich, one of the leading suppliers of hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary and mobile hybrid power supply solutions. The students were given a comprehensive guided tour of the production facilities and were able to witness the manufacture of fuel cell systems. Discussions with the development team gave the students valuable insights into the innovations and importance of alternative energy technologies.
After the three informative company visits, the group returned from the energy technology excursion with lots of new insights and experiences. The participants of the energy technology excursion 2023 would like to thank all companies visited for their hospitality as well as the interesting lectures and guided tours and the valuable insights they were given at MAN Nuremberg, the geothermal plant in Pullach and SFC Energy AG.
