From June 25th-30th 2023, the 36th "International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation and Environmental Impact of Energy Systems" (ECOS) took place in Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. This conference covers a wide range of topics related to energy systems, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and storage, public policy frameworks and hydrogen applications. Scientists from different departments presented and discussed innovative approaches, findings and solutions to meet the challenges in the energy sector.
Staff members of the Department of Engineering Thermodynamics and Transport Processes (LTTT) showcased their research findings at the conference. Marco Griesbach presented his research on optimizing the integration of an iron energy storage system for non-residential buildings, which is a promising approach to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Hannah Uhrmann displayed sustainable solutions for heat supply with her contribution on life cycle assessment of a geothermal heating plant.
The ECOS conference contributed to the exchange of knowledge and experts' ideas and thus to the further development of sustainable and environmentally friendly energy systems.
